Macbeth

I have been making more whirling dervish skirts, for the first time since working with NC students, this time for an adaptation of Macbeth by director Tina West, and her wonderful students, from Fife College. This adaptation is a contemporary and evocative piece of theatre, which echos internal and external conflict that we see around us in the contemporary political environment, it is a site specific piece that uses audio and powerful physical theatre . The skirts had to be adaptable, reversible and able to be split apart so that they can be used as scenery.

This performance is taking place in Dunfermline Abbey all week with special school performances.

Beards

I wanted to continue with the techniques I explored in the recycled textile jewelry and found a request for submissions by Fiber Art Now with the theme of 'Wild'.
The wildest thing I could think of was bearded ladies. It has been a crazy schedule, giving me just three weeks since returning from Spain, and this included Christmas, so I am pleased to have produced some work in time.
Though the deadline is on Tuesday I still feel I have a long way to go with this theme.

A new project and a tight deadline

I am working on a new project that I am really excited about, here are some little details.

Hazel Terry Calico Jewelry II

Today I had a photo shoot for the calico jewelry that I have been making over the last two months and also the work that the students have produced. All of this work has been made from scraps of calico that I have collected over the last few years. It has been great to experiment and see what you can make from bags of rags. The students work will be in my next post.

Here is the first of two rings that my friend Craig has made for me from my cut scraps and I have to say I am thrilled with it. 

I have another week of snipping away and then on Monday I have a photo shoot, very excited and very happy with the results so far.

Hazel Terry, Calico Jewellery

These are some examples of the work that I have been developing to inspire students and I have to say also for the love of it. 

These jewellery pieces have all been made using calico scraps and off cuts that I have been gathering from the fashion department bins for years. Today I am going to be picking up some other work from this series which my friend Craig Stewart has been collaborating with me on, and I am very excited to see what he has made.

I will be sharing more of this work, and my students work for this project, over the coming weeks.
