Camille Smith

Costumes created by Camille Smith for her degree show at London's Central Saint Martins. This project is called 'Portraits of Panic' and explores the taboo of mental health and how we react to it.

"My final work for the degree show. The work explores the externalisation of emotions associated with mental health and attempts to create a alternative portrait of the human condition. This is just a work for my degree however it is a huge personal achievement that I even got this far and I couldn’t have on my own. It is therefore dedicated three separate ways. To Luke and Jessica who have been a constant source of humour and of light.
To Andrew who’s resilience in the face of death, once again, was a reminder to keep pushing on because good things come.
Finally to Sue who stopped me from ending my own life twice and has reminded me of the reasons to keep living for two years. Sadly many people have walked away during this time, but Sue has been the one constant. I wouldn’t still be here without her.
The work is grounded in shifting the taboo of mental health and how we as humans deal with it. Whether we are experiencing it or not it is an education that we can and need to take something from. I am lucky enough to have had these amazing people to keep me going for the last two years, but everyone who experiences this should! This is only the beginning of The Carnival Collective and I hope to continue challenging and educating people about mental health with it. So look out for them in a field near you (hopefully) sometime soon." Camille Smith

Liam Johnson

Stunning, translucent, silhouettes created by Liam Johnson for his graduate collection at London Central Saint Martins. 

“In terms of the fabric, I chose fabrics that felt very cheap to me ‒ flat, nasty, unexpected.’ Using this as a starting point, Liam’s challenge was to elevate his textiles to a luxury level. He focussed on the intersection of two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality, bringing flat printed elements to life in 3D form. An important aspect of his process came from an awareness of the space around each individual piece, examining where the 2D meets the 3D and where the 3D meets the space. “I was trying to break everything down to its original form, it’s most abstract shape.”Liam  Johnson

Rory Parnell Mooney

Rory Parnell Mooney is an Irish designer who graduated from London Central St Martins last summer. His collections notably always feature the mouth, the eyes or the ears either by obscuring or revealing them it is like the three monkeys see no evil speak no evil and see no evil. The top three images are from his 'Man' collection AW 2015 Though the colour palette is mostly dark Rory uses different fabrics to create a subtle richness. Rory has discussed before how he has been influenced by ecclesiastical layering and tiering of layers, this is a very strong feature of this collection.

Angel Chen - Les Noces

Angel Chen - Les Noces (The Wedding) from her BA Hons Fashion: Fashion Design Womenswear show summer 2014. This is another exuberant and exciting collection with that exotic merging of cultures, ideas and palettes creating something truly unique, but with flavours from historical, folk and tribal costume.

Faustine Steinmetz II

Faustine Steinmetz has developed or deconstructed her denim further than before. Initially it was shredded to a kind of felt or tufted rug but two years on SS2015 and it is down to a wonderful spiders web of indigo thread.

“ All the yarns are made from recycled denim, we unravelled the old denim and used traditional pleating and hand stitching techniques.” Faustine Steinmetz 

Flaminia Saccucci I

Flaminia Saccucci's wonderful clash of colour and sensibility of man made and natural patterns were hand painted on latex dress /legging forms, inspired by the sexiness of rubber, the masculinity of tyres and the feminine fragility of wild flowers. Flaminia Saccucci won the L’Oréal Professional Young Talent Award for the best student collection at the Central Saint Martins BA graduate show of 2011.

Maiko Takeda II

 

 

 

This is Maiko Takeda's degree collection called 'Cinematography' at London Central Saint Martins 2010 where she played with the effect of manipulating fabrics to create shadows on the skin.

Teruhiro Hasegawa I

Teruhiro Hasegawa's dresses from his graduation in 2012 from London Central St Martin are a riot of fabric manipulation structure and texture.

Nathan French

Nathan French studied fashion at London Central St Martins and then went on to launch his own collections, he has become increasingly interested in feathers, furs and human hair which he dyes, combines and transforms producing headdresses, aprons, collars, jackets and coats. Nathans work is increasingly sought by dancers,singers, performers and models.

Vingi Wong

Vingi Wong is a Fashion, Textiles and Print Designer from Hong Kong who graduated from London Central Saint Martins, Fashion Print Ba (Hons) last year. Her textile designs combine techniques such as silk screen printing ,digital print, hand embroidery and beading and are exciting, bright and full of texture.
