Ayako Miyawaki

 

Oh the beauty! of applique works by Ayako Miyawaki (1905-1999), are just a joy to see, they make my heart sing.  

A retrospective exhibition of Miyako (1905-1995), "120th year of birth: Miyako's art: I saw it, cut it, pasted it," is on at Tokyo Station Gallery (Marunouchi, Tokyo) until March 16th.

Jonathan Baldock I

 Jonathan Baldock has just had an exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I have to admit I didn't get to it on my latest trip, time had been spent gloriously exploring Sheffield (first time ever) with my great friend and we didn't get to YSP until late in the afternoon. These examples are not from this exhibition though, these are more exclusively textile applique from an exhibition in 2019 at Stephen Friedman Gallery

Maloes Duyker produces fashion illustrations drawing with her sewing machine using free style embroidery, appliqué and other textile techniques.
There is something wonderful about representing textiles by drawing with textiles.
 Maloes Duyker's illustrations have been used in magazine editorials and advertising campaigns by Marie Claire, Fortis, Tommy Hilfliger and Vodaphone amongst others.

Phillip Lim 'Cut Up'

Phillip Lim's 'cut up' collection has probably sprung from, amongst other things, the art worlds recent obsession with paper cut work, with artists such as Rob Ryan reaching celebrity status and crossing genres of art and design.
Phillip Lim has cut up different fabrics, arranging and appliquéing them in this innovative collection.
A nod to the fragmentation of modern life, this is a collection with roots in Dadaism and techniques of collage.
Delicate stories run around the garments like fairy tales, romantic and wonderful.
