Marian Schoettle established her professional name "mau" in Philadelphia in 1978. Marian's (Mau's) work is known as post industrial folk wear. She uses products that are normally industrial waste such as surplus hardwear and paint. Mau's most significant body of work to date is made from Tyvek a water resistant material used to make packaging for mail. It is a light durable material resistant to wind and rain and it looks beautiful as a fabric. Mau supplies limited edition art clothing and accessories to galleries, museums and boutiques. With her experimentation and inquisitive inventiveness Mau continues to push boundaries in art and fashion creating innovative and easy-to-wear garments that combining artisan pattern making and detailing with the high-tech fabric.
