Miesje Chafer

Miesje Chafer makes beautiful textiles and has a fantastic colour palette. I was drawn to her new obsession with Chicken Scratch lace.  'Chicken Scratch' embroidery a.k.a. Depression lace (also has lots of other names) is a style of embroidery used on gingham during the the depression to give the illusion of lace. Traditionally it would have been worked in white thread but it's so fun trying out all the different stitches in different colours!

It fitted me perfectly. To whom this dress was made for?

What was the story of her life?

For me a piece of clothing represents its former wearer.

Someone was present while ago, but now she/he is gone.

The faded colours and tears in the fabric show the signs of the time passed.
